Valletta Restaurant: A Spinning Meter, a Silent Roof Tank and a Faulty Pump

Valletta Restaurant: Onsite story

A restaurant owner in Valletta showed us damp around a service shaft. The water meter was racing. We isolated the line feeding the roof tank—and the meter calmed down immediately. Reopening it restarted the spin.

The roof check

Up top, the tank was empty and the pump was running constantly. Re-opening the feed from the shaft made the meter spin; closing the tank inlet slowed things but didn’t stop it altogether.

Diagnosis

Two issues: a faulty pump cycling out of control and a leaking tank feed line somewhere along the riser run.

Recommendations

  • Replace/repair the pump and renew the tank feed.
  • Pressure-test the riser, then reinstate the shaft with an access panel for future maintenance.
