We were called to a house of character in Gharghur after the owner noticed water damage in a dining room.
Thermal imaging confirmed a cold pattern in the affected area. The team then checked what was located above that room and found a corridor and bathroom, with the shower positioned above the visible damage.
What the inspection found
A controlled flood test was carried out using hot water. After some time, water began to manifest below and the thermal pattern enlarged beyond the immediate drain area.
Because the property included traditional Maltese stone slab construction, water tracking was relatively concentrated. The client was advised that the shower tray needed to be removed so the area below could be physically inspected and repaired.
Why this matters
Shower leaks can come from trays, drains, seals, waterproofing, pipework or the way water travels through older building fabric. Replacing silicone alone may not solve the problem.
