A gym in Mriehel asked us to investigate heavy mould growth inside one shower cubicle. The neighbouring space on the other side of the wall was also reporting water ingress that had worsened over recent weeks.
Visual And Thermal Inspection
The inspection started with the shower finishes, falls, mixer positions and adjacent wall areas. Each cubicle was checked so the affected one could be compared against normal pipe routes.
In the target cubicle, thermal imaging showed an unusual hot signature around the shower mixer area. The other cubicles provided useful controls because their pipe runs appeared balanced and did not show the same anomaly.
Behind the target wall, where renovation works were underway, a cold patch suggested evaporative cooling from moisture in the structure.
Likely Source
The combined evidence pointed to a hot-side leak at or near the shower mixer body. The finding matched the mould growth in the cubicle and the neighbour’s report of water ingress beyond the wall.
The recommendation was to open precisely at the marked mixer area, repair or replace the affected mixer/joints, pressure-test the repair, then reinstate with suitable board and finishes.
Commercial Shower Areas Need Faster Action
Gyms and other commercial premises have high shower usage, so a small fault can stay wet for long periods. Ventilation helps, but it cannot compensate for an active leak behind the wall.
For gyms, clinics, hotels and workplaces, commercial leak detection and bathroom leak detection can reduce unnecessary opening works. If mould or damp is already visible, a damp moisture inspection helps decide what needs to dry before reinstatement.
